MULTIMEDIA FORMATS – If you have a website and you want to store some audio and video files in your website then they are stored in media files. It depends on the extension as to what type of media.
The sound formats can be stored in many different formats such as:

So it can be said that the MP3 is the sound part those video MPEG files. MP3 is now a very popular format of sound and is widely used to store audio on the websites. The quality of sound stored in the MP3 format is just perfect. It will not be wrong to say that this is the most widely used sound extension.

AVI stands for Audio video Interleave. The AVI format of videos was developed by Microsoft. All computers that run windows support this sound format. There are many websites that have .avi extension videos. Many websites store data in the form of .avi.
- The MPEG Format:
This stands for Moving Picture Expert Group. This is onwe of the most popular forms of video over the internet. These files have the extension ,mpg or .mpeg.
- The Quick Time Format:
videos on the websites are also stored in the Quick Time format. It is a good way to play movies on internet via Quick Time player, but if you have windows then you need to install the quick time extension or plug-in to play the files. These files have extension .mov.
The most popular these days is the FLV format. FLV files are very easy to upload and download, you will see most of the websites have these files to store videos like Youtube.com, metacafe,com etc.
